The Migrations initiative at Cornell University aims to cultivate new collaborations that advance science, scholarship, teaching, outreach, and engagement in ways that generate new insights into critical problems. We wish to provide a stronger evidentiary basis for policy and to place Cornell University at the forefront of migration studies around the world. 

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the context of the ERC Consolidator project Migration and Democratic Diffusion: the Impact of Migration on Democratic Practices and Processes in Countries of Origin (MIGRADEMO), led by Eva Østergaard-Nielsen in the Department of Political Science at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Every 18 December, the United Nations celebrate International Migrants Day to recognise the efforts, contributions, and rights of migrants worldwide. A perfect moment to speak with Arjen Leerkes, who was appointed Professor of ‘Migration, Securitisation and Social Cohesion’ at Maastricht University and UNU-MERIT last month, about the position of immigrants in our societies. Where can asylum seekers go when they are trying to flee their country? Should they stay in the same region, or can they go elsewhere? 

An updated version of the MACIMIDE Global Expatriate Dual Citizenship Dataset has been published, extending the dataset to 2018. The MACIMIDE Global Expatriate Dual Citizenship Dataset charts the rules that existed in near all states of the world since 1960 with regard to the loss or renunciation of citizenship after a citizen of a respective state voluntarily acquires the citizenship of another state. 

General description 

Children of migrant origin are more likely to move within the country of settlement than native born youth, however little is known on the potential effects of this so called internal mobility. When does childhood internal mobility have positive or negative consequences on an individual’s life? Are there differences in processes and consequences for those of immigrant and non-immigrant background? The main objective of the MYMOVE project is to advance knowledge on the relationship between childhood internal mobility and adult life chances as defined by demographic family life choices, health and well-being for those with and without immigrant background. The MYMOVE project will make use of unique and new longitudinal (full-) population register data from across Europe 

The Institute for European Global Studies at the University of Basel invites applications for two PhD positions (full time) starting immediately or according to agreement. They are part of the research project “The Divisive Power of Citizenship” funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Applications can be submitted until April 24, 2019.
