  • 23-27 August 2021 – Oxford Summer Course on Applied Research Methods

    Focussing on Hard-to-Reach populations, the course provides an introduction to research methods in conducting research, both qualitative and quantitative, on marginal, hidden and excluded population. It will cover research on topics such as migrants; refugees and displaced people; children and adolescents; sex workers; homeless; LGBT; victims of violence, conflicts or trafficking; HIV/AIDS; drug users as well as topics proposed by participants. Aimed to promote action-oriented research, the course introduces the main theories and research approaches on exclusion and marginalization using different frameworks and techniques. It addresses methods and strategies to address the dangers associate with the lack of systematic use of solid research methodology, ethics, data collection and analysis in the formulation and evaluation of policies and programs.

    Applications are now open for the MiReKoc International Summer School 2021 hosted in Collaboration with IMISCOE

    This year, Migration Research Center at Koc University (MiReKoc) collaborates with International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe (IMISCOE) to organize the 10th MiReKoc International Summer School, which will be held between October 11-22, 2021 at Koç University, Istanbul on the theme of “Research Methods and Ethics in Migration Studies” offering a hybrid model for both face-to-face and online.

    PhD grant for “Migration and Innovation” in Bordeaux

    The PhD grant is part of a research project funded by the Regional Council of Aquitaine, under the joint supervision of Francesco Lissoni and Ernest Miguelez. The selected candidate is expected to complete their dissertation in three years, although extensions can be granted, if properly motivated. The proposed subject is linked to a larger research program, for which the prospective supervisor has submitted a proposal to ANR, the French National Research Agency. The aim of the project is to study the attractiveness of French doctorates Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for foreign students; as well as the ability of the French science and innovation system to retain the best foreign graduates.

    Vacancy: Postdoctoral ethnographer for a multisite ethnographic study in Senegal and Europe

    The Institute of Security and Global Affairs of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral ethnographer for a multisite ethnographic study in Senegal and Europe. JUSTREMIT is an ERC funded research project investigating remittances and justice with a focus on Europe and Senegal. One pillar of the project is an ethnographic study of remittances focusing on Senegalese senders in Europe and receivers in Senegal. Complementing the ethnography will be two PhD candidates working on migration governance issues and the PI’s study of global justice. The ethnographer will be a key member of the team. The position involves substantial field research.

    Two PhD vacancies at the University of Konstanz on “Administrative inequality: the case of foreign nationals in Germany”

    Project Description: Foreign nationals with a similar background frequently face varying chances to obtain German visas, work permits or passports. The Administrative Inequality project examines unequal treatment of foreigners in the domain of visa and naturalisation decisions by comparing the decision-making behaviour of German consulates across the world and of citizenship offices across German counties and states.

    IOM CALL FOR CONSULTANTS: COVID-19 impacts on migration and migrants from a gender perspective

    The Migration Research Division of the International Organization for Migration is looking for academic and applied researchers on gender and migration who would be interested to contribute to a one-year research project funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada on “The impacts of COVID-19 on migration and migrants from a gender perspective”. The objective of this research project is to explore and critically examine the short- and longer-term gender implications of COVID-19 impacts on migration and the well-being of migrants worldwide so as to inform policy and programmatic responses during and after the pandemic.
