The Gender-Based Effects of Displacement: The Case of Congolese Refugees in Rwanda

Thomas Huddleston, Programme Director on Migration and Integration at the Migration Policy Group and part-time PhD fellow at Maastricht University, Campus Brussels will be taking up a part-time Senior Visiting Fellowship at the Maastricht Center for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE) from 1 March until the end of 2017. 

Announcement ITEM PhD Volume 

Expertise centre ITEM is the pivot of research, counselling, knowledge exchange and training activities with regard to cross-border mobility and cooperation. When it comes to topical issues, ITEM keeps its finger on the pulse. Although the refugee crisis has been going on for quite some time, the issue remains strongly present in the news. Where the discussion was first aimed at the reception of refugees and the processing of asylum applications, it is now shifting to other themes such as integration.

With this email, I would like to announce the next migration seminar on Wednesday, 29 March. The migration seminar series, which is offered jointly by MGSoG/UNU-MERIT in collaboration with MACIMIDE, features researchers and practitioners whose work addresses human mobility.

Where: Spiegelzaal Soiron building – Grote Gracht 80-82, Maastricht University 

At this two-day conference the preliminary results of the ITN network TRANSMIC(Transnational Migration, Citizenship and the Circulation of Rights and Responsibilities) will be presented to a broad audience. The conference will offer ample opportunities for discussion of these results, and will also include keynote speakers both from within and outside of the TRANSMIC network. 

A vacancy has opened for a Postdoctoral Researcher to examine the impact of populations and migration on the Maroni (Marowijne) River on the Suriname-French Guiana border. The post is funded by CNRS in France. The deadline for submission is 31 March, 2017.
