The next migration seminar offered jointly by MGSoG/UNU-MERIT in collaboration with , which will take place on Wednesday, February 20 n this seminar, Prof. Dr. Maarten Vink from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Maastricht University) will present about Naturalization in Context: Migrant Life Course and Institutional Change. The seminar will be held from 13:00 – 14:00 in room 0.16/0.17 of the UNU-MERIT building at Boschstraat 24. A sandwich lunch will be provided 

The Human Rights Centre of the United Nations-mandated University for Peace has announced calls for applications for its two flagship professional development online diploma programmes in Human Rights and Forced Displacement and Sustainable Development and Human Rights beginning on 6 March 2019 and 20 March 2019 respectively.  

On 19 February, Stepahn Simon will speak at the Migration Seminar on the topic: “Immigration Policies and Political Support – A Survey Experiment in Germany”. 

The Pan-European Conference on International Studies will be held on 11-14 September in Sofia, Bulgaria. President’s Excellence Chair in Global Migration 

The Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver Campus, invites applications for a President’s Excellence Chair in Global Migration, a full-time tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with anticipated start date of July 1, 2020.

The Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE) invites applications for Junior Visiting Fellowships. The duration of fellowships is between 3 and 6 months. Selected applicants are not financially remunerated by the Centre. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the fellow or his/her sponsoring institution. A library card will be provided and the use of desk space depends on availability. 

On 12 February, Prof Dr Maarten Vink (FASoS./MACIMIDE/GLOBALCIT) will speak at the Migration Seminar on the topic: “Citizenship in the migrant life course: 10 observations on immigrant naturalization”.

Call for papers 

The Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE) invites you to submit a proposal for a workshop or a paper for the MACIMIDE Annual Work Conference 2019. MACIMIDE is the Maastricht University’s interdisciplinary research platform for interfaculty collaboration in the fields of migration, mobility, citizenship, development, and family life.

On the 10th of April (20:00) Maastricht Working on Europe is organising the programme ‘This is London: despair, poverty and unfulfilled dreams’. In the book with the same name, the British-French journalist Ben Judah chronicles his journey through the migrant communities of London, showing us the transformation of his birthplace into a true migrant city. There are many lessons to draw from that transformation for the rest of Europe.
