Editor of Immigration Journal
The Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS), a non-profit educational institute/think tank devoted to the study of international migration, seeks to hire an editor for its on-line, peer-reviewed, public policy journal, the Journal on Migration and Human Security (JMHS). The position will report to CMS’s Executive Director who also serves as JMHS’s Executive Editor. The editor’s responsibilities include coordinating all aspects of publication of individual JMHS articles on-line, as well as special collections and yearly hard-copy editions of the journal. Responsibilities include working with the Executive Editor and editorial advisory board, promoting and extending the reach of the journal, developing ideas for articles, coordinating the peer-review process, editing articles, laying them out, communicating with authors, scheduling the release of articles at appropriate times, working to promote articles, increasing the journal’s distribution and impact, developing marketing and development materials, and promoting the journal to scholarly associations and other stakeholders. In addition, the JMHS editor will be asked to proofread and edit other CMS documents, to blog on particular JMHS articles and timely issues, and to play a growing role in coordinating the submission, peer-review and publication processes for all of the agency’s publications.
CMS is looking for a hard-working, well-organized self-starter who writes well, has strong editing skills, relevant professional experience (preferably as a journal editor), and substantive expertise in international migration issues. A relevant graduate degree and job experience is required. Foreign language proficiency is strongly desired. The position may be either a part-time or full-time position. However, applicants should be willing and able to work in CMS’s New York office on a regular basis and to contribute in a collaborative way to the full professional life of the agency.
