22/01/2024 – Online event on Changing narratives – challenging xenophobia and racialised portrayals of migration (MIDEQ)

Migration for Equality and Development (MIDEQ) Hub
Roundtable on Changing narratives – challenging xenophobia and racialised portrayals of migration

The online event will be held on 22 Jan. at 11:00 GMT.

Many MIDEQ researchers work in places where misconceptions of, and the use of dehumanising, gendered and racialised language about migrants is prevalent. Collectively, we have sought to use opportunities where they exist, and to create space where they do not, to shift narratives on South-South migration. This includes disseminating tailored research outputs as well as developing a range of impactful activities supported through MIDEQ’s Impact Initiatives.

The roundtable brings MIDEQ researchers together to discuss using creative storytelling as a means to not only humanise people who migrate but also confront the xenophobic and racist narratives that we are often too familiar with. We will hear about different and creative approaches, ranging from animations to convey migrants’ stories to curating immersive exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur.

Registration for the roundtable is now open. To join, please register here.

More details can on the event can be found on MIDEQ’s website.
