On Friday 5 February 2021 at 10:00, Inge Hooijen will defend her PhD with the title “Place attractiveness: A study of the determinants playing a role in residential settlement behaviour”. The aim of this dissertation is to create more insight into various factors that are at play in better understanding the attractiveness of places and the ability of places to attract and retain (new) residents. Four empirical studies in this dissertation are conducted which focus on living preferences, (im)mobility intentions, (im)mobility behaviour and location choice respectively. The event will be live streamed.

On 26 November the first symposium on Migration, Health and Integration took place, a collaboration between UNU-MERIT (with the Maastricht Centre for Global Health and the Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development) and the Radboud University Network on Migrant Inclusion (RUNOMI) in Nijmegen. 

On 17 December 2020, the book ‘COVID-19 and Migration: Understanding the Pandemic and Human Mobility’ edited by Prof. Ibrahim Sirkeci and Prof. Jeffrey H. Cohen and published by Transnational Press London was launched virtually. The edited volume comprises 17 chapters bringing together the world’s foremost experts on human mobility to understand the many and complex links between the pandemic and human mobility.

Panel: Who deserves what and why? The driving forces behind public opinion towards immigrants’ integration 

On 26 November the first symposium on Migration, Health and Integration took place, a collaboration between the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance/UNU-MERIT (with the Maastricht Centre for Global Health and the Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development) and the Radboud University Network on Migrant Inclusion (RUNOMI) in Nijmegen. 

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) is seeking an assistant professor with demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in the politics or sociology of global migration and global development. Particular topics of interest include but are not limited to climate migration, migration between and within Global South countries, and migration policies in sending regions. We are interested in people with research experience in a Global South context and a mixed-method research approach.
