Europe under pressure: effects for border regions – 25 years after the Maastricht Treaty 

Brexit is a fact. The residents of the United Kingdom have given their opinion, Prime Minister Cameron has resigned. Reforms of the European Union seem necessary. What will be emphasised? Further cooperation or further closing of borders? What does that mean to us, residents of Europe’s oldest Euregion, who live within a stone’s throw of the border and are meanwhile not hindered by the border anymore but for its administrative acts?

Religion and Gender in Migration to and from Central and Eastern Europe

The Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law (CISRUL) at the University of Aberdeen is delighted to offer two 3-year PhD studentships to start in September 2017. The studentships will include home/overseas fees and a full stipend of £14,539 per annum. We welcome applicants from anthropology, cultural and literary studies, history, legal theory and socio-legal studies, philosophy, politics, religious studies, sociology and theology. 

In 2017, the WZB Berlin Social Science Center is establishing a new interdisciplinary research group, “Global Citizenship Law: International Migration and Constitutional Identity”, which will be led by Professor Liav Orgad, connected to the Research Area Migration and Diversity (headed by Professor Ruud Koopmans) and in collaboration with the WZB Center for Global Constitutionalism (headed by Professor Mattias Kumm). 

The European Centre of Development Policy Management (ECDPM) in Maastricht has the following positions that may be of interest to post-doc or Ph.D. alumni, or Master’s alumni with relevant work experience.   

In the upcoming seminar, Dr. Amanda Alencar (Erasmus University) will present ” Refugee Integration and Social Media: A Local and Experiential Perspective”. The seminar will be held from 12:00-13:00 in room 0.16/0.17 of the UNU-MERIT building at Boschstraat 24. A sandwich lunch will be provided.
