Call for proposals: Studio Europa Research Calls 2026 – Now Open!
The Studio Europa Maastricht (SEM) Research Calls 2026 are now open for applications!
Tesearchers from across UM faculties are invited to apply for seed funding for:
- Call 1: Interfaculty research projects,
- Call 2: Academic events and outreach activities.
Projects should include researchers from a minimum of two faculties and align with the recently updated UM research agenda on Europe and its four themes:
- European Integration, Rule of Law and Democracy,
- Sustainability, Prosperity and Cooperation,
- Knowledge, Technology and Digitalisation,
- Europe and the World.
What’s new: Our calls are no longer open on a rolling basis. Fixed deadlines now apply.
- Call 1: One round per year; currently open until 2 March 2026.
- Call 2: Two rounds per year; round 1 currently open until 2 March 2026; round 2 opens in September 2026.
Funding: €10,000 (call 1 projects)/€5,000 (call 2 workshops & events, outreach activities).

Studio Europa Maastricht is UM’s centre of expertise for Europe-related research and debate. Since 2019, we have offered seed funding to support Europe-focused research.
Over the past months, we reviewed our research calls; some of the results of past projects are summarised in the attached report. We are happy to now reopen the calls for application.
