 The first ever international conference on Environmental Non-Migration provides a forum for exchange and discussion on influencing factors and capacities of individuals, households and communities to stay put despite environmental threats. The focus is on conceptual frameworks, methodologies, case studies, and cross-cutting issues. Key results will be used to derive priorities for future research considering originality and relevance. The event brings together renowned experts from relevant disciplines and different regions of the world as well as early career scientists in the PhD and postdoctoral phase of their career. Accordingly, the conference will also foster international networking taking advantage of the recently founded Global Network on Environmental Non-Migration. The conference will be organised in a series of thematic sessions as follows:

The only event worldwide that brings together refugees, entrepreneurs, education experts, private sector, governments, academia and NGOs to improve higher education, promote sustainable economic empowerment and strengthen leadership amongst young people in fragile states. 

On 21 and 22 November 2019 the Annual Conference of the Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross-border cooperation and Mobility/ITEM will take place in the province of Overijssel (the Netherlands).

The Annual Summer Institute on Migration and Global Health is an event that has gained national and international recognition, since it is one of the few academic spaces dedicated to present and analyze in depth the interrelation between migration, the health of migrants, and global health from a multi-disciplinary perspective. The Summer Institute provides researchers, faculty, graduate students, and professionals working with migrant communities around the world, a unique opportunity to learn about different health issues that affect mobile populations. 

WELCOMING SPACES is a research project funded through a Horizon 2020 grant. The consortium aims to look into the possibilities to revitalise shrinking areas by hosting non-EU migrants. They will focus on local, bottom-up initiatives that stimulate integration of migrants, while revitalizing rural regions that currently face severe population and economic decline. 

On 11 March 2020, Dr. Ortrun Merkle will give  a lecture on the topic of “Gender perspectives around Migration”. The lecture will be held from 19.00 to 20.30 in the conference room of UNU-Merit, Boschstraat 24.   

On 3 March 2020, Prof. Khalid Koser will give a lecture on the topic of “Resolving the Global Refugee Crisis”. The lecture will take place in the conference room of UNU-Meriit, Boschstraat 24, from 19.00 to 20.30.
