In the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic, the notion of community has taken on a powerful meaning of solidarity and support: ‘Mutual Aid’ communities have burgeoned everywhere in the world, delivering foods and medication to the elderly and vulnerable; technology provided unprecedented levels of connectivity through which communities could be formed; new and creative forms of activism have emerged in the shape of crowdfunding campaigns to salvage independent shops as well as theatres and other cultural institutions.

About this Research Topic 

Migration has globally become a hot topic in political agendas over the decades. International Organisation for Migration (IOM), as of 2020, note > 270 million international migrants, the majority of whom left their countries for better social and economic opportunities, also increasing due to water crisis and climate shocks.

Do you want to present your research to a wider community beyond academia? DAMR is currently looking for contributions to the DAMR MigrationBlog. The DAMR MigrationBlog aims to make migration research accessible for a wide audience.

Panel: Who deserves what and why? The driving forces behind public opinion towards immigrants’ integration 

After the Spring 2020 edition moved on-line and the Fall 2020 one was cancelled, the “Workshop Series on Migration, Globalization and the Knowledge Economy” is back on track! The CALL FOR PAPERS is now open. With the fourth edition of the Workshop Series on Migration, Globalization and the Knowledge Economy set to be held in Bordeaux (France) and on-line on 17-18/05/2021. This is part of our series of 5 workshops that were launched in 2018 on the topic of migration and its relationship with knowledge creation, diffusion, entrepreneurship, international business, innovation, and more. The 5 workshops are organized by CEPII, EPFL, PSE, Utrecht, ICRIOS-Bocconi, GSSI, IPP-CSIC, and GREThA-Université de Bordeaux. 

The first issue of the Journal of Migration Studies (ZMF) has just been released. Eleven articles deal with the status, the challenges and perspectives of migration research. Simultaneously, some articles of the second volume (Migration Studies and Politics) have been published online first. The Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE), in collaboration with the Dutch Association for Migration Research (DAMR), invites you to submit a proposal for a workshop or paper for the MACIMIDE Annual Work Conference 2021 that will be held on 23 September 2021. 

We invite contributions for the joint online workshop “Ethics of Big Data for Migration Research” organised by the HumMingBird consortium (Enhanced Migration Measures from a Multidimensional Perspective, H2020 project – GA 870661), the SoBigData++ consortium (European Integrated Infrastructure for Social Mining and Big Data Analytics, H2020 Project – GA 871042) and the IMISCOE Meth@Mig (Methodological Approaches and Tools in Migration Research) standing committee. 

The Journal of Refugee Studies (JRS) is accepting proposals for special issues. JRS is a peer-reviewed journal featuring original, high-quality research related to diverse aspects of forced migration. We welcome proposals that engage with and significantly advance scholarly debates in the field of refugee and forced migration studies.
