In this video Melissa Siegel looks at the Observatory of Public Attitudes to Migration (OPAM), a part of the Migration Policy Centre within the EUI. OPAM aims to enhance understanding of attitudes to migration through presentation, analysis and evaluation of data from all EU member states.

Melissa Siegel makes a new Migration Series on Senegal

Prof. Siegel looks at the migration history, policy and current situation of Senegal. Her first video looks at the history, starting from before European colonisation and then the effects of colonisation on migration history. This included both the impacts of Dakar Port and the construction of train lines connecting Dakar with other major hubs, as well as migration from France and Lebanon.

NWO Hestia Grant for MACIMIDE researchers Nasrat Sayed and Lillian Tsourdi

Nasrat Sayed and Lillian Tsourdi have been awarded an NWO Hestia grant! This grant will allow Nasrat to join Lillian Tsourdi’s ongoing NWO VENI project and the Law Faculty/IER Department as research associate for 2 years on a 60% basis and to partake in career development activities, including the development of a PhD proposal. For the rest of his allocation, Nasrat will continue to be employed by UNU-MERIT.

Take your career to another level with UNU’s part-time PhD programme. The “Dual Career Training Programme to obtain a PhD in Governance and Policy Analysis” (GPAC²) is taught in English, and consists of a first year with three training workshops, and two workshops built around research progress every subsequent year.

Prof. Melissa Siegel has published a wide range of olympic migration content

Over the summer Prof. Siegel has published videos on various olympic related migration topics. This has included videos on the migrants that competed at the Olympics, the International Refugee Team and the process of changing nationalities for the purpose of competing (this included both the regulatory framework as well as examples of people who have done it).

Sonja Fransen has received a Comprehensive Innovation grant from UNU-MERIT

Dr Sonja Fransen has received a Comprehensive Innovation grant from UNU-MERIT to study ‘Climate Vulnerabilities in Refugee Camps’. The two-year research project will provide empirical insights into the vulnerabilities of refugee camp locations and camp residents to climatic events, both rapid and slow onset, and identify and evaluate innovative policy strategies that can be used to reduce these vulnerabilities.
