Melissa Siegel creates a new series on her YouTube Channel focusing on Migration Snapshots

The new series will examine migration in a specific country or geographic region. The first migration snapshot examines the European Union (EU). This is based on the data found in the Atlas of migration. In this first video Melissa Siegel looks at various indicators and the flows of migration including through the issuance of residence permits and the number of asylum claims.

IOM Launches New Dynamic World Migration Report Interactive Platform

The International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) flagship publication has launched a dynamic new webpage that connects fact-based narratives on migration with interactive data visualizations on some of the latest global migration data and information. It is the first microsite of its kind since the World Migration Report (WMR) series began more than two decades ago.

A Group of MACIMIDE Researchers have been awarded a D&I grant on “Expats x Migrants”

A team of Maastricht University employees including various MACIMIDE researchers won a Diversity & Inclusivity Grant to challenge the arbitrary distinction made between expats and migrants. The project ‘Expats x Migrants: Segregating the Migrant Community’ invites people to think about and question the labels they put on others by zooming into the distinction made between migrants and expats.

Dr Bilisuma Dito wins WOTRO Impact and Innovation (WI&IG) grant

Dr Bilisuma Dito has received a grant of €50,000 from the NWO WOTRO Impact and Innovation grant scheme for the project  ‘Only Time will Tell: How the Well-being of Stay-behind Migrants’ Children Develops Over time.’

Melissa Siegel uploads a new country case study series: the UK

In this new country case study series on the UK Melissa Siegel looks at the history of migration, migration policy and the modern situation in the United Kingdom. In her first video she addresses the history from the Norman Conquest through to the migration as a result of EU membership. In this she touches on various points in British migration history turning attention to internal migration and to Windrush migration.

In this video Melissa Siegel uses data from the EU’s Atlas on Migration to look at the migratory situation in Spain. In doing this she looks at both the flows and stocks as well as at measures of social inclusion, education and participation in the labour market.
