Stigma, Coercive Isomorphism and Pakistani Migrant Organizations in London, Toronto and New York City
by Ali Chaudhary (University of California, Davis/International, Migration Institute)
MGSoG/UNU-MERIT in collaboration with MACIMIDE
Abstract: In this seminar, Mr. Chaudhary will present a paper from his doctoral research, which examines how Pakistani migrant non-profit organizations experience and respond to stigma and global regulatory environments associated with the ‘war on terror’. This paper draws on previous research on migrant organizations and uses theories from organization studies to explore how organizational stigma constrains migrant organizations from fulfilling their missions and commitments to Pakistani migrant communities in London, Toronto and New York City as well as in Pakistan.
