Europe under pressure: effects for border regions – 25 years after the Maastricht Treaty 

Brexit is a fact. The residents of the United Kingdom have given their opinion, Prime Minister Cameron has resigned. Reforms of the European Union seem necessary. What will be emphasised? Further cooperation or further closing of borders? What does that mean to us, residents of Europe’s oldest Euregion, who live within a stone’s throw of the border and are meanwhile not hindered by the border anymore but for its administrative acts?

Wagner, L. B. (2017). Viscous automobilities: diasporic practices and vehicular assemblages of visiting ‘home’. 

UNU-MERIT and its School of Governance are implementing an impact evaluation ofConnecting Diaspora for Development (CD4D), a programme operated by the International Organization for Migration Netherlands. As a continuation of IOM’s Temporary Return of Qualified Nationals (TRQN) project, the programme links diaspora members with Dutch residency to institutions in their countries of origin.

In the upcoming seminar, Ms. Saskia Kok (University of Amsterdam) will present “Social Media and Migration: the Connected Migrant “. The seminar will be held from 12:00-13:00 in room 0.16/0.17 of the UNU-MERIT building at Boschstraat 24. A sandwich lunch will be provided.

On 16 December 2016 a proposal was introduced to amend the Dutch citizenship law, in order to make it possible for Dutch citizens to keep their citizenship when they acquire another citizenship.

Mexican Ambassador to the Netherlands, Eduardo Ibarrola Nicolin, will speak on ‘MIGRATION TO THE US FROM MEXICO.
