The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) is seeking an assistant professor with demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in the politics or sociology of global migration and global development. Particular topics of interest include but are not limited to climate migration, migration between and within Global South countries, and migration policies in sending regions. We are interested in people with research experience in a Global South context and a mixed-method research approach. 

IOM is hiring two new members of staff in its Regional Office in Bangkok (Thailand) to support the Regional Data Hub (RDH): 

The 4Mi Project Coordinator leads the implementation and technical development of the Mixed Migration Monitoring Mechanism initiative in Europe, and through its work with the global team contributes to the overall development and strengthening of 4Mi across the world. 

The LIMES doctoral programme is currently accepting PhD proposals that relate to the ‘mobility of persons’ cluster and scrutinise the shifting of EU’s borders through externalisation and its implications. The envisaged areas of scrutiny include: 

The International Centre for Migration Policy Development is searching for interested candidates to apply for a research position to examine: “Zusammenhänge zwischen Schutz, Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten und irregulären Transitmigration.”  

Enabel is the Belgian Development Agency. The Agency also implements projects for other national and international organisations. Together with its Belgian and international partners, Enabel provides solutions to tackle urgent global challenges: climate change, urbanization, human mobility, peace and security, social and economic inequalities, and global citizenship. With 1,500 employees, Enabel manages some 150 projects in around twenty countries, in Belgium, Africa and the Middle East. 

Despite the high volume of population mobility, migrant stocks and the notable contribution by migrants to the Countries of Destination (CoD) and Countries of Origin (COO) in the Southern African region, data on international migration are often unavailable, or fragmented and non-comparable between countries. This hampers the capacity of relevant stakeholders to design and develop migration policies and operational responses based on solid evidence and affects the accuracy of national and regional reporting on policy and development progress. Timely, disaggregated and quality data would also serve to inform the United Nations system as a whole, as well as government and other societal partner platforms with regards to internal and policy- related programmatic design, Monitoring and Evaluation, and adaptation for both upcoming and current programmatic interventions. 

In view of the above, IOM Regional Office based in Pretoria is supporting the SADC Member States and the National Statistical Offices in the following areas: (i) strengthening of national coordination and migration data harmonization mechanisms, (ii) regional coordination and capacity building, (iii) establishment of measures to enhance migration data, (iv) enhancing the use of administrative data and, (iv) addressing data gaps on underreported migrant groups. 

The Consultant is expected to work under the overall supervision of the Regional Director for Southern Africa in Pretoria, the direct supervision of the Southern African Migration Management (SAMM) Regional Project Coordinator and in close coordination with the Migration Research Division at IOM Headquarters and the Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) in Berlin, the successful candidate will be responsible for research and knowledge production undertaken by IOM Regional Office for Southern Africa in the context of the SAMM project. The Migration Research Division of the International Organization for Migration is looking for academic and applied researchers on gender and migration who would be interested to contribute to a one-year research project funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada on “The impacts of COVID-19 on migration and migrants from a gender perspective”. The objective of this research project is to explore and critically examine the short- and longer-term gender implications of COVID-19 impacts on migration and the well-being of migrants worldwide so as to inform policy and programmatic responses during and after the pandemic. 

The Institute of Security and Global Affairs of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral ethnographer for a multisite ethnographic study in Senegal and Europe. JUSTREMIT is an ERC funded research project investigating remittances and justice with a focus on Europe and Senegal. One pillar of the project is an ethnographic study of remittances focusing on Senegalese senders in Europe and receivers in Senegal. Complementing the ethnography will be two PhD candidates working on migration governance issues and the PI’s study of global justice. The ethnographer will be a key member of the team. The position involves substantial field research. 

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) conducts and supports data analysis designed to guide and inform migration policy and practice. The Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC), based in Berlin, Germany, responds to IOM’s call for upgrading its capacity to collect and analyse migration data, and to develop closer partnerships with data providers and academic institutions. GMDAC acts as a “data hub” for decision-makers and practitioners seeking the best available migration data.
