You are invited to the Seminar Series on Forced Migration. The upcoming seminar will be given by Jennifer Hyndman (York University, Toronto, Centre for Refugee Studies), titled “Refugee Sponsorship: Will Civil Society Keep Stepping Up?” and is scheduled for Wednesday, December 16, 2020 starting at 5:30pm CET (Vienna time)/ 11:30am EST (Toronto time). SEMINAR ANNOUNCEMENT 

The next Migration Seminar, offered jointly by MGSoG/UNU-MERIT in collaboration with MACIMIDE, will take place on Wednesday, December 16th. 

In this seminar Dr. Evelyn Ersanilli will present the results of the book Marriage Migration and Integration Integration’ (Palgrave) by Katharine Charsley, Marta Bolognani, Evelyn Ersanilli ,and Sarah Spencer. The seminar will be held from 15:00 to 16:00 CET on Zoom (link in location above). 

The next edition of MACIMIDE’s multidisciplinary Annual Conference will take place on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 September 2021.

On 7th April a workshop will be hosted on the ‘Criminalisation of Welfare and Citizenship’ under the broader theme of Crime, Criminalisation and Injustice. 

Mixed methods research is an excellent way to capture complex phenomena such as migration due to its possibilities to collect rich, comprehensive data. However, the blending of methods in migration studies remains difficult. In this virtual conference, academic researchers will come together from all over the world together to exchange experiences, interests and ambitions in bringing mixed methods to the next level in the field of migration research. 

JUSTREMIT and the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University invite paper and panel proposals for consideration for the first JUSTREMIT Conference “Remittance Studies: making and mapping a field.” 

In the coming autumn, ITEM is organising several events on cross-border cooperation. The long awaited ITEM Annual Conference will finally take place this year! 

On 23rd September a group of academics and practitioners came together for the MACIMIDE Annual conference in Maastricht. With some people able to join in person, while others joined online. The conference was opened by Karlijn Haagsman (one of the Centre Co-Directors). Her opening remarks were followed by an interactive session by Julia Reinhold regarding perceptions of migration and the presentation of the Expats x Migrants photo exhibition. At this point Tetsuro Miyazaki, the photographer spoke on the inspiration and process that resulted in the exhibition.
