Maarten Vink, MACIMIDE Co-Director, collaborated with National Geographic for the publication of a 1-page data visualization on the global variety in citizenship laws. The data are derived from the Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT), a web platform that provides user-friendly open access to a major worldwide collection of data and analyses on citizenship laws and access to franchise for academic researchers and policy communities. Maarten is one of the Co-Directors of GLOBALCIT.

On 2 April, Utrecht University will launch the new Focus Area on Migration and Societal Change with a keynote by Prof. Nando Sigona from the University of Birmingham. 

The Dutch Association for Migration Research (DAMR) is an inclusive international network of academic researchers with an interest in contributing to the development of migration research in the Netherlands. DAMR has the objective of increasing the scientific standing of migration research in the Netherlands by emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to migration studies, theory formation and advancement based on empirical research.

Five years after the so-called ‘refugee crisis’ reached the European continent, the topic is still widely debated. Media, politics and the public discuss intensive ways to deal with incoming migrants and to prevent migration in the future. However, many misconceptions exist around migration and joint solutions to the topic are lacking. 

On 9 January 2020, Prof. Melissa Siegel and Nava Hinrichs travelled to Bern, Switzerland to discuss past and future migration work with representatives of the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC). 

On 6 February 2020, Prof. Melissa Siegel gave a lecture on the “Myths and misconceptions around migration” in Brussels as part of the sixth edition of Maastricht University’s Star Lecture Series. This year, 14 lectures took place simultaneously in different cities across five countries
