Prof. dr Hildegard Schneider gives her farewell lecture

On 10 June 2022, after a symposium organised by Sarah Schoenmaekers and Pauline Melin, Prof. Schneider gave her valedictory lecture entitled “Crossing Borders: Challenges and Chance”. During this she addressed the the development of European migration law, especially through the light of the ongoing conflict in Ukrainian and the resulting displacement. She finished on a fitting maxim: do not onto others as you wouldn’t want done onto.

Laura Ogden (representing MO-TRAYL) a finalist for NWO Synergy Award ’22

Laura Ogden from Maastricht University was one of four finalists for the NWO’s Synergy Award ’22. Representing the MO-TRAYL team, Laura made a pitch at the Synergy ’22 event on 16 June at Fokker Terminal, The Hague, for a social impact project to help policymakers and the public rethink the way we categorise migrant youth.

New Video by Melissa Siegel on the Global Report on Internal Displacement 2022

In Melissa Siegel’s new video she looks at the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre’s Global Report. In this year’s report there is a specific focus on children and youth. She begins by addressing the stocks and flows of internally displaced people – by both natural disasters and as a result of conflict. In this Melissa Siegel breaks down the geographic spread of displacement and touches on the duration of displacement.

She begins by looking at internal displacement of Ukrainians – in doing this she looks at the origin and destination of internally displaced persons. Melissa Siegel then went on to look at the international displacement. This includes an examination of the numbers being received by different States.
