International Student Mobility (ISM) is a prominent aspect of the Internationalization in Higher Education (IHE).

Laura Ogden from Maastricht University was one of four finalists for the NWO’s Synergy Award ’22. Representing the MO-TRAYL team, Laura made a pitch at the Synergy ’22 event on 16 June at Fokker Terminal, The Hague, for a social impact project to help policymakers and the public rethink the way we categorise migrant youth. 

In Melissa Siegel’s new video she looks at the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre’s Global Report. In this year’s report there is a specific focus on children and youth. She begins by addressing the stocks and flows of internally displaced people – by both natural disasters and as a result of conflict. In this Melissa Siegel breaks down the geographic spread of displacement and touches on the duration of displacement. 

n her latest video Melissa Siegel provides a third update on the displacement of Ukrainians. She begins by looking at internal displacement of Ukrainians – in doing this she looks at the origin and destination of internally displaced persons. Melissa Siegel then went on to look at the international displacement. This includes an examination of the numbers being received by different States.

Various MACIMIDE members have contributed to a policy brief presenting the academic reflections on a selection of recommendations adopted at the European Citizens’ Panel on migration and EU in the world. 

On 26 September 2022, the Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE) organizes its Annual Work Conference devoted to topics focusing on migration and education, return migration, migrants and the receiving society, labour migration and economic integration, knowledge transfer and corruption.

Over the summer months Melissa Siegel has published several videos looking at a variety of migration topics. 

Department of Sociology 

The Department of Sociology was established in 1964 and is renowned for its research excellence. It is highly ranked in the QS World Rankings and has been in the top ten for the quality of its research in all of the research assessment exercises since 1986. REF 2021 ranks us as 1st for Research Environment and 2nd for Research Power.
