Welcome MACIMIDE Junior Visiting Fellows

MACIMIDE welcomes Afroditi Gavrill and Sakura Yamamura, the new MACIMIDE Junior Visiting Fellows.

Afroditi Gavriil is PhD candidate in Political Science at Panteion University (Athens). At MACIMIDE she works on the project The statuses of quasi-citizenship and denizenship in Greece: a comparative study under the supervision of Prof. Marteen Vink and Dr. Costica Dumbrava (FASOS, Politics). Afroditi’s fellowship is sponsored by a grant from the Greek State Foundation.

Sakura Yamamura is PhD candidate in Geography at the University of Hamburg. At MACIMIDE she works on a project entitled Transnational spaces and homes of third culture kids and their families in the network of global cities under the supervision of Prof. Valentina Mazzucato (FASOS, TSS).

In 2014/2015 MACIMIDE hosts four Junior Visiting Fellows.

Two Junior Visiting Fellows joined MACIMIDE earlier: Francisco Alonso, PhD candidate in Social and Political Sciences, European University Institute (Florence) and Ozden Ocak, PhD candidate in Cultural Studies at George Mason University (VA, USA).

Francisco Alonso works on the project Irregular migration to the European Union, development and violence in North Africa under the supervision of Dr. Melissa Siegel and Prof. Hein de Haas (MGSG & UNU-MERIT)

During her stay at MACIMIDE, Ozden Ocak worked on the project Theorizing France’s Ministry of Immigration and National Identity: Borders, Populations and National Identity in Postcolonial Europe under the supervision of Dr. Melissa Siegel (MGSG & UNU-MERIT).
