Overview
The Department of Politics at Princeton University seeks to hire an Outreach Associate (Senior Research Specialist) in support of a project titled, “Understanding Marginalized Communities in the Arab World Through Social Science Research: Gaining Insight, Enhancing Capacity, Building Collaborations, Contributing to Solutions.”

Responsibilities
The Outreach Associate will have a strong background in the social sciences and research design, including a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as political science, sociology, or economics. A knowledge of and interest in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is required. Fluency in Arabic is required.

Working with the project’s PIs and academic director, the outreach associate will have responsibility for: (1) developing curricula for four one-week workshops to provide training and an in-depth course on social science research methods to a core group of junior Arab researchers; (2) serving as a co-TA during the workshops including leading individual sessions and working one-on-one with workshop participants; (3) working on all assignments and grading work completed by the workshop participants; (4) serving as a liaison with APSA-MENA and other partners to coordinate project activities; (5) coordinating with Arab Universities to provide instructional materials and curricula; (6) disseminating work conducted by project participants on the Arab Pulse blog and beyond; (7) disseminating findings related to the Arab Barometer on the Arab Pulse blog; (8) organizing a major policy conference; and (9) helping with translation as needed.

Additional responsibilities of the position are as follows: Participate in developing local research capacity in our partners and consulting on operations, design, methods, substantive content, and analysis. Prepare and maintain project management tools. Monitor budgets and resource allocation. Participate in the preparation, writing and delivery of reports, presentations and publications. Assist in the communications strategy of the project. Identify potential problems, research and recommend approaches, and implement solutions. Conduct other tasks as assigned.

This position is based in Washington, DC and requires onsite presence during the normal business week. Occasional domestic and international travel (no more than a few trips annually) to project sites, project-related meetings, professional conferences, and work-related training is required.

Qualifications
Required: A Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in political science, sociology, economics, or another social science, and 2-3 years of related experience. Excellent knowledge of, and applied experience with, quantitative research methods. Knowledge of a statistical language such as SPSS, Stata or R. Strong experience documenting, analyzing and disseminating data. A history of being organized, resourceful, and attentive to detail. Supervisory and financial management experience. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects at once, take initiative, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. Superior written and oral communication skills in Arabic and English. Excellent interpersonal skills. Comfortable working both individually and as part of a team.

Preferred: Prior experience with comparative research or international collaborations. A knowledge of French is desirable.
