Postdoc Position: Social Network Resources and the Labour Market Inclusion of Disadvantaged Groups (Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen)
Are you interested in the role of social contacts for inclusion of vulnerable groups? Do you want to contribute to a research project addressing the role of social capital in labour market inclusion of women & migrants in the Netherlands? As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will explore the positive and negative side of social capital and how this affects the inclusion of women and migrants, by analysing newly produced survey data on the Netherlands.
This postdoctoral position is a primary part of the research project ‘Positive and Negative Social Capital and the Labour Market Inclusion of Disadvantaged Groups’. The project investigates how vulnerable groups access, activate and reciprocate different types of support through their social networks, and how these interactions impact labour market outcomes for migrants and women. A key aspect of the research will be distinguishing between access to resources (positive social capital) and request for resources (negative social capital). The project will also explore the role of contacts developed and maintained online versus offline.
The position also provides an opportunity to work with data collected between 2021-2024 in seven surveys among labour migrants in the Netherlands, which are part of the Kenniscentrum Arbeidsmigranten (KCA) panel on labour migrants. This data provides unique insights into the perspective of labour migrants on themes that are relevant to their lives in the Netherlands.
The position involves conducting research for 3 days a week (0.6 FTE) and teaching courses in the Economics and Business Economics programme for 1 day a week (0.2 FTE).
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will (i) contribute to a survey on social capital and labour market inclusion of migrants and women, (ii) conduct statistical analyses on the collected survey data; (iii) take the lead on collective scientific publications on the collected survey data; and (iv) perform teaching activities and thesis supervision.
