Policy brief: Towards the More Effective Use of Irregular Migration Data in Policymaking

This new MIrreM policy brief has been published and launched jointly with MPI-Europe on Dec 10. Drawing on data from various MIrreM stakeholder workshops, this policy brief highlights challenges such as the political nature of data collection, limited accessibility, and the lack of data literacy among users. It also explores how unclear legal frameworks and technical obstacles impede data sharing and effective use. To address these issues, the brief recommends harmonising definitions, improving local data collection, enhancing system interoperability, and building capacity to ensure data support constructive dialogue and evidence-based policies.

The policy brief is an abridged version of the longer working paper available here.
