Online courses: “Climate Change and Human Mobility” & “Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and Development”

The Human Rights Centre of the United Nations-mandated University for Peace is accepting applications for two upcoming six weeks online courses on the topics of Climate Change and Human Mobility (10 January – 20 February, 2018) and Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and Development (17 January – 27 February, 2018). The brand new course on Climate Change and Human Mobility, offered both as a stand-alone course as well as part of the professional development online diploma programme on Human Rights and Forced Displacement (enrollments for which are accepted on a rolling basis) will be taught by Prof. Jose Riera Cezanne who has recently joined the faculty of UPEACE after 32 years of distinguished service with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), most recently as Special Adviser to the Assistant UN High Commissioner for Refugees (Protection), where he was instrumental in leading the organization’s involvement in issues pertaining to international climate change and human mobility (his current area of academic and policy research).

The course on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and Development, also offered both as a stand-alone course as well as part of the professional development online diploma programme on Sustainable Development and Human Rights (admissions for which are accepted on a rolling basis as well) is now in its 7th year of offering and will be taught by Dr. Mihir Kanade, who has been leading the Centre’s work in this area, including field work, over the last several years. 

Both courses are intended for staff members of intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations, human rights practitioners and defenders in areas covered by the courses/diplomas, professionals working in the human rights, forced displacement and development sectors, academics and others interested in the covered areas.
