OECD Development Centre Traineeship Position

The OECD Development Centre is looking for a trainee to work within the Migration and Skills Unit in the framework of a project aimed at Assessing the Economic Contribution of Labour Mobility in Developing Countries as Countries of Destination (ECLM). The trainee will in particular work on the fiscal effects of immigration in Costa Rica.

Trainee Position for a Master or PhD student in economics

Position: Trainee
Duration: 6 months
Start date: November/December 2016

The Development Centre is a unique institution within the OECD and the international community, where the governments of member and partner countries, enterprises and civil society organisations discuss questions of common interest informally. Its Governing Board includes most of the OECD countries but also emerging economies. The Centre helps policy makers in OECD and partner countries find innovative solutions to the global challenges of development. (www.oecd.org/dev).

We are looking for a Trainee to contribute to the work of the Development Centre on international migration and development, in particular in the framework of the project Assessing the Economic Contribution of Labour Migration in Developing Countries as Countries of Destination (ECLM): http://www.oecd.org/dev/migration- development/eclm.htm. The trainee will in particular work on the fiscal effects of immigration in Costa Rica.

Job Duties

Under the supervision of the Head of the Migration and Skills Unit of the OECD Development Centre, the trainee will contribute to:

  • the analysis on the fiscal effects of immigration in developing countries;
  • the development of a methodological framework to be applied in Costa Rica;
  • the collection and analysis of data for empirical research at country level;
  • the empirical analysis and preparation of tables and graphs for inclusion in papers, presentations and other 
outputs of the Migration and Skills Unit, as needed;
  • other tasks as required by the Head of Unit.

Qualifications
Education and experience

  • Master or PhD student in economics;
  • Good knowledge of socio-economic issues on migration and development or/and fiscal systems and taxes.

Core competencies

  • Strong personal motivation to help and meet the challenge of reducing poverty in the world, in particular by promoting a better understanding of the economic and political challenges of development;
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills;
  • Very good analytical and drafting skills;
  • Fluency in the use of standard software applications (MS Office) as well as statistic packages (e.g. STATA);
  • Familiarity with econometric techniques will be an advantage.

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of one of the two official languages of the Organisation (English and French) and a very good knowledge of the other;
  • Excellent knowledge of Spanish.
