ODI Publication: Journeys to Europe – the role of policy in migrant decision-making
The Overseas Development Institute has published research which aims to improve understanding of the role that migration policies play in the decisions migrants make along their journeys, Journeys to Europe: the role of policy in migrant decision-making.
The paper and policy brief by Jessica Hagen-Zanker and Richard Mallett is based on in-depth interviews with more than 50 migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have recently arrived in four European cities (Berlin, London, Madrid and Manchester).
The authors explore the journeys migrants take; the factors that drive them; and the extent to which national migration policies influence people’s decisions, both before their journey begins and along the way. The authors also set out three recommendations to lead to better management of and response to the migration crisis in Europe.
The report and event are the latest additions to ODI’s initiative on Migration and Refugees, do get in touch if you would like to find out more.
