Melissa Siegel examines the effects of Covid-19 on remittances

Based on predictions from last year and the work of the World Bank, Melissa Siegel addresses the effects that Covid-19 had on remittances during 2020. She starts by identifying that the effects were not as considerable as had originally been predicted. Prof. Siegel highlights that the scale and stability of remittances are taking a prominent role in development. By the third and fourth quarters of 2020 there was already a visible recovery from the dip in the second quarter. Melissa Siegel also addressed the shift from informal remittance sending to more formalised sending which had been forced by the lack of mobility. To watch the video click here.
