The Department of Sociology at the University of Essex is one of Europe’s leading Sociology Departments and is ranked 24 in the World in the latest QS Rankings. The University of Essex is in the top three for Social Sciences in the results of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.
We wish to appoint a Lecturer in Quantitative Sociology who will contribute to the internationally excellent research and teaching carried out in the department. Applicants are invited from all areas of the discipline and should have a PhD in Sociology or an allied field, together with a strong record of teaching and research excellence. Applicants who can teach in the areas of criminology and/or social psychology are particularly welcomed, but this is not an essential requirement.
The Department is expanding its portfolio of teaching in quantitative methods, with a new quantitative pathway for Undergraduate degrees. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the development of these activities, teaching substantive topics in his or her area of specialism as well as quantitative methods. The role will also involve the supervision of undergraduate, Masters and PhD dissertations as well as contributing to the general administration of the Department. The post holder will be expected to carry out high quality research in his or her area of specialism. We encourage applications from early career researchers.
We particularly welcome applications from those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented at this level within the School.
