Journal of Refugee Studies Reviews Co-Editor

The Journal of Refugee Studies (JRS) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal featuring original, high-quality research related to diverse aspects of forced migration, as well as Field Reflections and Reviews. In addition to reviews of recent scholarly manuscripts, the Reviews section also includes reviews of other materials of potential interest to JRS readers, such as films and other digital media, and works of fiction and narrative nonfiction. Further information about the new direction of the Reviews section can be found here.

To support the expansion of the Reviews section, the journal is recruiting a Co-Editor to work with the current section Editor. In particular, we are looking for a Co-Editor with an interest in creative sources of knowledge and teaching on refugee and forced migration issues produced in regions other than Europe and North America.

Please see the job description below for more information on the role. Interested candidates are welcome to submit their CV and a short letter explaining their interest in the post to jrs.editorialoffice@oup.com by 15 June 2022. Application letters should highlight any previous editorial or reviewing experience; interest and involvement in interdisciplinary research related to refugees and forced migration; and the areas that the candidate would hope to contribute to for expanding the reach and representation of the Reviews section.

Any questions on these posts may be directed to Georgia.cole@ed.ac.uk. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. We expect to conclude the recruitment process in Autumn 2022.  Thank you for your interest!

Journal of Refugee Studies Reviews Co-Editor Job Description

  • The Reviews Co-Editor will normally serve for a three-year term (renewable once). The position is voluntary. The Co-Editor will be recruited bearing in mind considerations including field(s) of expertise (e.g., disciplinary, thematic, regional, methodological), geographic location, and diversity.
  •  The Co-Editor will be responsible for working with the current Reviews Editor to choose manuscripts and other sources to commission reviews of, and for finding and approaching suitable reviewers. The Reviews Co-Editors ensure that the reviewers have access to the material they will be reviewing through liaising with relevant publishers and authors.
  • In partnership with the current Reviews Editor, they will be responsible for making recommendations about the suitability of reviews for publication, and for working directly with authors to provide feedback and support over the required rounds of revisions. • The Co-Editor will participate in regular meetings with the JRS editorial team, and annual JRS advisory board meetings.
