Background

The Hertie School of Governance is an international teaching and research centre of excellence that prepares students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society. The European Research Centre for Anti-Corruption and State-building (ERCAS) is one of the school’s research centres with a focus on evaluating and analysis anti-corruption initiatives and policies. Through ERCAS, the Hertie School is a member of the EU FP7 ANTICORRP project consortium. The full name is Anticorruption Policies Revisited: Global Trends and European Responses to the Challenge of Corruption. The central objective of the project is to investigate factors that promote or hinder the development of effective anti-corruption policies.

In the context of ANTICORRP project, ERCAS is currently looking for a research associate. This is a full time position (40 hours) and is expected to start ASAP.  The research associate will work with Professor Mungiu-Pippidi and ERCAS team for the ANTICORRP project and specifically support in related data analysis work:

Main Tasks 

 

  

  • Collect the data and assist with the preparation of policy and milestone reports (Work Package 8. Corruption, assistance and development).
  • Assist with updating of Index of Public Integrity that is being prepared for ANTICORRP project.
  • Disseminate ANTICORRP project results and publications (Work Package 12. Dissemination)
Education & qualifications
  • Completed master degree in public policy or in a related field.
Specialist knowledge & skills
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills
    Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques such as panel data analysis and cluster analysis
  • Knowledge of managing large datasets
  • Excellent proficiency using STATA and knowledge of R
  • Some knowledge of the literature on aid conditionality and public accountability mechanisms
Interpersonal & communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent English communication skills, speaking, writing (demonstrated by published writings)
  • Good knowledge of at least one other EU language
  • Comfortable working in multi-national work environments
