The Department of Geography and Regional Research is part of the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy. It is the largest and oldest geography department in Austria with research and teaching activities in human as well as physical geography. The department offers bachelor´s and master´s degree programs, teacher training, and doctorate studies.

1 PhD position is assigned to the newly established working group for Population Geography and Demography, which is led by Prof. Dr. Patrick Sakdapolrak. The working group pursues theoretically informed and empirically oriented research at the interface between population dynamics, environmental change and development processes. Human-environmental interaction, North-South relations as well as the linkage between science and practice are core issues of the research work. Regional foci are Southeast Asia, South Asia as well as East Africa. The doctorate thesis should address the issue of forced migration and displacement.
