The Refugee Studies Centre is seeking a flexible, dynamic, and committed professional to work as its Centre Administrator. Working closely with the RSC Director and in collaboration with other Centre and Departmental staff, the postholder will provide support for RSC strategic planning and operations in the areas of financial management, development and fundraising, and research management, in addition to being responsible for coordinating the day-to-day running and resourcing of the Centre.

The role offers an exciting opportunity for someone with high-level organisational skills and project coordination skills to develop experience of operations in a higher education environment. As a public-facing role for the RSC, the post involves communication with stakeholders including academics, advisors, policymakers in forced migration, current and prospective funders, and the general public.

Applicants should have a degree (or equivalent), proven relevant administrative experience with outstanding organisational skills, operational experience (ideally within a higher/further education environment), experience of working with budgets, a high degree of computer literacy including databases and Excel, excellent writing and editing skills, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This is a full-time, fixed-term for 1 year post, with the likelihood of extension.

RESEARCH OFFICER – THE POLITICS OF THE SYRIAN REFUGEE CRISIS – REFUGEE STUDIES CENTRE (2 POSTS)

Grade 7: £30,738 – £37,768 p.a.

The Refugee Studies centre is seeking to appoint two Postdoctoral Research Officers to work on the new Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs-funded research project “The Politics of the Syrian Refugee Crisis”. The activities and duties of the role will include original research and fieldwork, managing the day-to-day activities of the project, producing both sole-authored and co-authored publications, and presenting research findings at relevant meetings within and outside the UK.

The successful candidates will have a doctorate (completed or due to be completed before the start date of appointment) in a relevant social science subject (e.g. politics, international relations, or Middle East studies), experience of undertaking independent fieldwork, preferably in Turkey, Jordan or Lebanon, and ideally relating to the project’s focus countries. Based in Oxford, the post will require extensive travel overseas to countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey; a strong research and publication record, preferably using qualitative research skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience in organising meetings, workshops and conferences. These two posts are full-time and fixed-term for 1 year, to start in March 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.
