Invitation to submit offers for becoming a GLOBALCIT Country Expert

GLOBALCIT is the successor of the EUDO Citizenship Observatory and the most important online source of information on citizenship laws and electoral rights worldwide. It provides user-friendly open access to a comprehensive collection of data and analyses for academic researchers and policy communities.

Seeking to ensure highest quality global coverage of citizenship policies, GLOBALCIT is now looking for Country Experts, in particular, for the following countries Chad, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, and Tanzania.

Experts on other African countries not yet covered by our existing country profiles are also welcome to submit their expression of interest.

By becoming a GLOBALCIT country expert, you will join a network of over 350 scholars worldwide working on citizenship-related issues. You will become part of the collaborative effort, which has grown into the world’s prime source of data and analyses for studying the links between individuals and states. GLOBALCIT webpages have been consulted over 100,000 times in the last year by academics, policymakers and the general public. Joining GLOBALCIT as a country expert will give resonance and impact to your work on citizenship.

Description of work

Our Country Experts are expected to perform the following tasks for their respective country
of expertise:

  1. Verify and update our database on citizenship/nationality laws and
    regulations.
  2. Verify and update our databases of modes of citizenship acquisition and loss.
    The national expert shall check the accuracy and completeness of the
    information for the country of expertise in these databases.
  3. Write a country report on citizenship and nationality. The report (10,000 – 12,000 words, following the structure provided by GLOBALCIT) can be written in English or French.
  4. Provide brief ‘news’ updates on citizenship-related developments.

Interested candidates should submit their proposal consisting of two parts:
a) The technical part: one page application indicating a tentative timeline for the
completion of tasks, CV, and a sample of written work.
b) The financial offer: the financial offer should not exceed 1,250 euros per country.

When deciding on the offers the EUI will take into account the following:
• Possession of a PhD degree or equivalent research experience
• Specialist knowledge of the country of expertise, attested to by publications, academic work and policy engagement
• Fluency in English or French
