About the speaker
Dr Khalid Koser is Executive Director of the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund. Dr Koser is also Non-Resident Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution, Associate Fellow at Chatham House, Research Associate at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Non-Resident Fellow at the Lowy Institute in Sydney, Associate Fellow of the Global Health Security Programme at Chatham House, and extraordinary Professor in Conflict, Peace and Security in the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences at the University of Maastricht. He is also ?hair of the Global Future Council on Migration, and editor of the Journal of Refugee Studies. Dr Koser is a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). He was awarded the MBE for services to asylum seekers and refugees in the Queen’s 2014 New Years’ Honours List. His previous positions include Deputy Director and Academic Dean at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP); Deputy Director of the Brookings-Bern Project on Internal Displacement at the Brookings Institution; Senior Policy Analyst for the Global Commission on International Migration, where he was seconded from his position as Lecturer in Human Geography at University College London. From 2006-08 he held an adjunct position in the School of Foreign Services at Georgetown University. Dr Koser has published widely on prevention of violent extremism, international migration, asylum, refugees, internal displacement. He has field experience in Afghanistan, the Balkans, the Horn of Africa, Southern Africa, and Western Europe. Dr Khalid Koser holds a PhD from University College in London (1993) and a BA from the University of Cambridge (1990).
