Costica Dumbrava speaks on radicalisation at the Lisbon Forum of the Council of Europe

Dumbrava_Lisbon forum Costica Dumbrava, the Executive Coordinator of the Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE), was invited to participate in the Lisbon Forum on “How to combat radicalisation and terrorism: prevention tool and shared knowledge in the Mediterranean and European space” (3-5 December 2015).

In his intervention, Dumbrava spoke about legal responses to prevent and combat radicalisation focusing on citizenship and mobility measures aimed at tackling the phenomenon of the Western foreign fighters. He discussed several issues raised by these measures such as compliance with fundamental rights, proportionality and effectiveness.

Established in 1994 by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, the Lisbon Forum has been a distinctive platform bringing together high-level participants from Europe, neighbouring regions and other continents to share experience, good practice and expertise with regard to promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

LisbonForum_en-Logo_LF-1The 2015 Lisbon Forum aimed to promote good practices to prevent and combat radicalisation and to identify concrete measures to promote interdependence, democratic citizenship and inclusive societies in the Mediterranean and European space. Participants were drawn from international organisations, relevant ministries in European and Southern Mediterranean states, parliaments, local authorities and civil society.
