Departmental Lecturer in Forced Migration, Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford

The Oxford Department of International Development seeks to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Forced Migration.

The post is based at the Oxford Department of International Development, Queen Elizabeth House, 3 Mansfield Road, Oxford and is fixed-term for 2 years to cover the research leave of a member of permanent academic staff. You will form part of the core academic teaching staff of the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC), a constituent element of the Department of International Development, and the leading academic centre in the UK and Europe on refugee and forced migration issues.

You will teach both core and optional courses on the MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies and supervise students, as well as engage in research on themes related to forced migration. You will also undertake examining and admissions duties for the MSc and MPhil, and participate in administrative work including the external activities of the Refugee Studies Centre where required.

Applicants should have:
• a doctorate in the social sciences with a focus on forced migration, or be close to completion thereof;
• a strong knowledge of, and ability to teach on, the topic of border control and forced migration, particularly from a historical, sociological, criminological and/or post-colonial perspective;
• the experience and ability to take sole responsibility for designing, teaching and convening a full course on the MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies;
• proven ability and experience necessary to supervise high-achieving and challenging graduate students, in a multi-disciplinary environment, as well as carrying out student assessment, examination and course design;
• an active research record in the field of forced migration or cognate areas with an excellent academic publication record in peer-reviewed outlets, commensurate with stage of career;
• the ability to present research findings effectively to fellow professionals or other informed members of the public;
• the ability to contribute effectively to the administrative work of the department and the ability to innovate and work well with colleagues as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Grade 7: £32,236 – £39,609 p.a.
