CfP: Workshop Series on Migration, Globalization and the Knowledge Economy

After the Spring 2020 edition moved on-line and the Fall 2020 one was cancelled, the “Workshop Series on Migration, Globalization and the Knowledge Economy” is back on track! The CALL FOR PAPERS is now open. With the fourth edition of the Workshop Series on Migration, Globalization and the Knowledge Economy set to be held in Bordeaux (France) and on-line on 17-18/05/2021. This is part of our series of 5 workshops that were launched in 2018 on the topic of migration and its relationship with knowledge creation, diffusion, entrepreneurship, international business, innovation, and more. The 5 workshops are organized by CEPII, EPFL, PSE, Utrecht, ICRIOS-Bocconi, GSSI, IPP-CSIC, and GREThA-Université de Bordeaux.

This fourth edition of the workshop is jointly hosted by the Associated Laboratory on Linkages between Innovation and Environmental Sustainability (ALLIES), the Research Group in Theoretical and Applied Economics (GREThA) at the University of Bordeaux and the Institute of Public Goods and Policies (IPP) at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and the call for papers is now open (until April 1, 2021) and available here and in attached pdf.

The workshop will consist of a 2-day plenary session with presentations and discussions, and two keynote speakers. The keynote speakers of the Bordeaux workshop will be Jennifer Hunt, from Rutgers University, and Fabian Waldinger, from LM University of Munich.

Due to the COVID19 situation, the Bordeaux workshop is planned to take place in hybrid form: the authors of the accepted papers will be given the choice between coming to Bordeaux and present from there or do it on-line, while both keynote speakers are scheduled to present on-line. If the pandemic situation will turn out to be better than expected, we will bring the keynote speakers to Bordeaux too. In the opposite case, with a pandemic situation either stationary or worsening, we will move all participants to an on-line format, which is the most common format these days.

We aim to attract both senior and junior scholars dealing with research topics such as the role of high-skilled migration in fostering innovation in receiving countries, the relationship between diversity and innovation, the role of skilled diasporas and return migrants in diffusing knowledge back to their home countries, the emerging role of MNC in shaping scientists’ and engineers’ migration flows as well as temporary migration and knowledge sharing, migration and innovation-based start-ups formation, regions and mobility, and so forth.

To submit, please send your paper/extended abstract to: submission@migrationinnovation.eu, with the subject line of “Migration & innovation workshop Spring 2021.”
