CfP: Panel “Conceptualizing Transnational Youth Mobilities” – IMISCOE Conference 2016. Deadline: 15/01/2016

IMISCOE PANEL – research group CONTESTED CHILDHOODS

Prague, June 30-July 2, 2016

Panel Title: Conceptualizing Transnational Youth Mobilities

Co-chairs: Valentina Mazzucato, Joan van Geel, Elisabetta Zontini

The objective of this panel is to explore different ways to conceptualize youth mobilities that does justice to the complex and dynamic character of this phenomenon. In today’s globalizing world where many youths in global cities in North and South have migration in their life histories, either through their own mobility or that of their parents, youth mobility can take many forms. Above all, these mobilities present a lived reality for many youths to which they actively give meaning. This panel invites contributions that use different conceptualizations of ‘youth mobilities’ and shows their relevance for understanding how migration affects children and youths. We invite researchers to present papers, both qualitative and quantitative, which explore youth mobilities. Papers may focus on methodological issues, conceptualization or theorizations of youth mobilities. Scholars are invited to submit their title and abstract (250 words) before January 15, 2016 to Joan.vanGeel@maastrichtuniversity.nl
