CfP: Europe’s tidal waves – Migration and populism

Applications are now warmly invited for Europe’s tidal waves: Migration and populism (please find the CfP attached). The one-day workshop will take place on the 19th June 2018 at King’s College London and is organized by the JMCE and MIGPOP Research Group (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/innovation/groups/jmce/workshops.asp).

In particular, we welcome papers related but not restricted to the following topics:

  • The interplay between migration and populism;
  • The politicisation and securitisation of migration, including their implications and the reactions to them by different actors;
  • Differences in the framing of migration issues.

Guest speakers include Prof. Leila Simona Talani (Jean Monnet Chair in European Political Economy, King’s College London), and Prof. Daphne Halikiopoulou (University of Reading).

This workshop is specifically targeted at young researchers and PhD candidates. Please note that there is no registration fee; lunch and a drinks reception will be offered. A partial reimbursement of travel expenses might also be provided, on a competitive basis and depending on budget availability.

To be considered for the conference, please send your abstract (max 300 words) to jmce@kcl.ac.uk by Friday 27th April.

Notification of acceptance will be sent in early May, and full papers are expected in early June.
