CfP: Emerging technologies and the future of citizenship

The WZB Berlin Social Science Center, the European University Institute, and the Berkman-Klein Center for Internet & Society Harvard University invite submissions to an international workshop on “Emerging Technologies and the Future of Citizenship” The workshop explores the challenges and opportunities that emerging technologies pose to existing theories and practices of citizenship, state sovereignty. and the nation-state system.

The workshop focuses on four topics:

— Emerging Technologies and Global Citizenship;
— Blockchain-based Virtual Nations and Cloud Communities;
— Digital Citizenship;
— Matching Algorithmic for immigration Selection and Citizenship Allocation.

The first meeting will be in June 2018 at the WZB Berlin; the second workshop will take place in March 2019 at the Berkman-Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

Keynote Address: Professor Lawrence Lessig (Harvard Law School) and Professor Beth Simone Noveck (NYU Tandon School of Engineering).
