Cfp: Economies of Poverty and Migration: Coloniality and Migration Management
The American University in Cairo is pleased to invite colleagues and young scholars to submit paper abstracts for The AUC International Conference for Research on African Challenges (ICRAC), No Poverty, which will be held in Cairo, Egypt from December 4-December 5, 2019. To find more information, please see the conference website: http://www1.aucegypt.edu/conferences/icrac/
Based on this theme, we invite you to submit an abstract for the Subtrack H4: Economies of Poverty and Migration: Coloniality and Migration Management.
This subtrack aims to bring together researchers and scholars from different disciplines, approaches, backgrounds, and experiences working on the complex and manifold relationships of poverty, migration, and their economies, scrutinizing conventional interpretations of African migration and developmental approaches on the one hand, and investigating local and international-funded poverty alleviation programs in Africa on the other hand (please follow the link above for a more detailed description).
We invite proposals that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
– Questioning conventional assumptions on the relationship between poverty and migration in Africa;
– Discuss Migration and poverty alleviation programs that see refugees as labor market participants;
– Tackle the subject of gender, poverty alleviation, and migration;
– Scrutinize international programs addressing the root causes of migration;
- Formulate a postcolonial and/or decolonial critique of emerging migration industries in the global South;
Please see the following link for more information on organizational matters and abstract submission: https://www.conftool.org/icrac2019/.
Unfortunately, AUC does not have adequate funds at this time to cover registration fees, travel, and accommodation. However, for young scholars without an institutional background and for African scholars we are attempting to find funding to cover needed expenses and will keep you posted on developments.
