Call for Papers: Emerging Immigration Scholars Conference February 26 and 27, 2016 UCLA

UCLA Center for the Study of International Migration

This conference, organized by the UCLA Center for the Study of
International Migration seeks to create an interdisciplinary space for
junior immigration scholars to share drafts of their research and
writing projects and get to know one another. It will be open to
emerging immigration scholars, including post-doctoral fellows and
tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty who have held professorial
positions for eight years or fewer.   The conference seeks to attract
presenters working in a broad range of social science disciplines, as
well as ethnic studies, law, public health, urban planning, public
policy, and social welfare.

The conference will consist of workshops, with comments by leading
immigration scholars, as well as two conference-wide panel sessions.
Commentators and panelists include Matt Barreto, Rogers Brubaker, Jack
Citrin, Louis DiSipio, Ingrid Eagly, Kelly Lytle Hernandez, Ruben
Hernandez-Leon, Hiroshi Motomura, Marjorie Orellana, Carola
Suarez-Orozco, David Sears, Roberto Suro, Roger Waldinger, Steven
Wallace, and Andreas Wimmer
The workshops are designed to allow for intensive discussion and
constructive criticism of papers that may still be in the in-process
stage.  Papers submitted for works-in-progress sessions should range
from 25 to no more than 40 (double-spaced) pages in length.
The conference will also be open to participants who may not have a
paper to present.  However, the expectation in any workshop is that
all participants will be expected to be able to comment on papers
discussed in that session.
Interested presenters are requested to submit a draft paper or a 5
page prospectus, with c.v., which can be uploaded at this address:
http://ucla.in/1NAXFDG.  The deadline for submissions is January 1,
2016.  Decisions will be made by no later than January 15, 2016.
Presenters will then be asked to register ten days following
notification of acceptance.
Presenters and participants will be charged a conference registration
fee of $75.   For presenters traveling from beyond the LA region, the
UCLA Center for the Study of International Migration will pay for up
to two nights of accommodation at the UCLA guest house on either
February 25 and 26 or February 26 and 27.   However, participants will
need to pay for their own transportation.
