Applications Open: UNU-GCM Consultants

The UNU Institute on Globalization, Culture and Mobility (UNU-GCM) is accepting applications for consultants to work on our research program on Female Agency, Mobility and Socio-Cultural Change. The feminization of migration is one of the most significant social patterns to have emerged in the course of the last century. Too often, female migrants occupy vulnerable positions in their host societies, but despite established patterns of exploitation, the numbers of women who choose to migrate is rising. This research program focuses on this phenomenon, in order to better understand why and how migration may offer routes to empowerment to women. A specific area of focus will be the extent to which migration allows women from the global south new sociocultural horizons as they cross over and settle in the global north. Questions of dignity, security, wellbeing and integration form central aspects of this research program. Changes to socio-cultural norms and patterns through female empowerment are also of interest. International and internal migration, as well as South-South migration are also of interest.

UNU-GCM seeks up to FOUR consultants who will conduct home-based research on the above areas between July 2015 and December 2015. Preferences will be given to those with geo-cultural expertise on female mobility in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Mediterranean.

The deadline for applications is 31 May 2015. See the vacancy announcement for more details.
