15-18/11/2022 – Kaldor Centre Conference, ‘Turning points: New directions in refugee protection’

The conference includes a combination of virtual panels and in-person elements from 15-18 November 2022. You can join the virtual panels from anywhere in the world, and delegates can either participate in real time, or watch on demand. 

*Students, participants from refugee backgrounds, the Global South and those who can’t pay to attend can register for free.*

Virtual sessions include an opening keynote address from Professor Jane McAdam, and six topical panels:

  • COVID-19’s lasting effects on refugee protection
  • Catalysing meaningful refugee participation: Next steps and ongoing challenges
  • Is Ukraine a turning point for people seeking safety?
  • A better conversation: Changing the public discourse about refugees
  • Secrecy somewhere else: Accountability for the ‘externalised’ treatment of refugees

On 18 November, there is a full-day scholars’ workshop that is open for virtual or in-person participation: ‘Crossing borders: Interdisciplinary research on forced migration’. This includes:

  • Methods workshops: mixed methods, aid agency consultancy research, narrative methods, Participatory Action Research
  • Panel sessions on ethics in forced migration research
  • Roundtable on ‘Borders: An interdisciplinary exploration’, bringing together thinkers from various disciplines to explore the complexities of borders.
